ers_template() now creates a Quarto (.qmd) file by default. Previously it always created an R Markdown (.Rmd) file, so ers_template("my_analysis") now produces my_analysis.qmd rather than my_analysis.Rmd. This is deliberate: the team is standardizing on Quarto as part of the move from RStudio to Positron. Pass type = "rmd" to get the previous behavior.
New features
ers_template() gains a type argument ("qmd", the default, or "rmd").
Added Quarto versions of both templates: the bare-bones ERS_Quarto_Template and the erstools_walkthrough. ers_template() is the only way to reach them, because Positron has no Quarto template picker and Quarto has no equivalent of rmarkdown::draft().
ers_template() now returns the created file path invisibly and messages which file it created, since Positron does not always open the new file automatically.
Notes on the Quarto templates
Every code chunk is gated with #| eval: false so a new analyst’s first render succeeds before any placeholders have been filled in. Delete the line from a chunk once it holds real values.
Rendered output lands next to the source file rather than in a knitted files/ subdirectory. embed-resources: true keeps the HTML a single self-contained file.
Unchanged
The R Markdown templates are unchanged and remain available through ers_template(type = "rmd") and the RStudio “New R Markdown > From Template” picker.
